ABOUT KARINE

  • I am originally from France, but I am currently living in Sydney, Australia for 10 years now and I am 47 years old
  • It all started in 2008 and at that time, I was in Geneva, Switzerland
  • I thought I was generally healthy but I was not thinking health in general
  • I was just not eating any junk food and I was not smoking or drinking and I thought I was all right
  • I was very sedentary, I was not interested in sports at all except skiing during winter
  • So, in 2008, I decided to get a ski fit
  • I took a gym membership and I got addicted quickly
  • At the same time, I started reading about nutrition because I wanted to get healthier and fuel my workouts as well
  • Unfortunately, I started following guidelines from the fitness industry which are, to have 5-7 meals a day, very high in protein, high in carbs and low in fats
  • At that time, I was already a vegetarian so, I was already low in fat and high in carbs, but I was not eating enough protein
  • So, I started drinking all these protein meals and I did that for 10 years, and it got me absolutely nowhere
  • I was putting a lot of effort into my workout and I did increase my stamina, but I did not get any leaner, I was not building muscle mass, I was hungry all the time, and I was craving so much sweet food too
  • 2 years ago, I decided to change career
  • I started with a Primal Health Coach Schools and this is where I had my big “Ha-Ha” moments
  • This is when I understood that eating a lot of carbs and high proteins were raising my insulin and that was putting me in a fat storage mode
  • Even worse when you have 6-7 meals a day because you’re just raising your insulin constantly and you’re constantly in a fat storage mode
  • I was just so happy because suddenly, everything made sense and I knew what to do
  • But, I am frustrated at the same time because I did the wrong one for 10 years
  • When I learned about that, I changed my nutrition, I started doing low-carb, high-fat for a couple of weeks it was magic
  • All my cravings are gone, no more hunger and it was easy
  • I went full keto after a week and I just love it
  • I started losing weight and it was probably the first six months that I lost 6 kilos
  • After 6 months, I started adding time restricting eating as well to my program
  • I started skipping breakfast and have a bigger lunch and a bigger dinner
  • I could also feel that my stress went down by quite a lot, and I never looked back
  • 2 months ago, I started my website where we show out articles
  • I just want to make sure that people will read them
  • In the website, has the information about how the physiology of our body works, and lots of practical tips that people can squeeze in their day to be more aware
  • I took a little bit of time to figure out how to rise up my fats
  • I had these limiting beliefs that I just could not do it without bread because I am French and bread is quite important in France
  • So, to do all my recipes and meals, it took me about 2 weeks and after 2 weeks, there’s no problem at all
  • I also did the keto desserts, keto bread, and all these things because I probably do that as part of the transition, but now, I don’t need those
  • After 6 months into my keto diet, I decided that I don’t need cardio so I skip the cardio completely
  • Now, I am doing weights training every day and I am walking a lot

ADVICE

  • First, I think it is so important to know what are your limiting beliefs are
  • There are just so many excuses, but actually when you try and see for yourself and you’ll realize that it is easy and not restrictive
  • It’s not restrictive and complicated, you just need to change your mindset
  • Processed food seems convenient, but cooking meat and vegetables do not take time too – it’s very simple
  • If you are going to try it, you will have to love it
  • When I was vegetarian, it was very hard because when you go out, you can only eat pasta and that was much harder
  • Now that I am on keto, I can pretty much go out in any decent restaurant and find what I want
