The Healing Power of Raw Egg Yolks

Ashley James, host of the podcast Learn True Health healed her PCOS with raw egg yolks and the ketogenic diet. She and her husband were blessed to have a baby boy.

After suffering with PCOS and not being able to conceive, Ashley consulted a Naturopath and was told to boost her intake of cholesterol. Specifically, both she and her husband were to eat a dozen of raw egg yolks every day.

Even though this was not an easy task, it worked, and she got her period back, became pregnant and is now blessed with a son.

Ashley follows a ketogenic diet and has the BEST chocolate ice cream/pudding recipe

  • Launched the show because she struggled with her entire adult life
  • Has type 2 diabetes, chronic adrenal fatigue, and uncontrollable weight gain
  • Been doing everything that she has told that it is healthy but her body is betraying her
  • Felt like a prisoner in her own body
  • Diagnosed with PCOS at the age 19 and told that she would never have kids

 

  • I went to a depression. I was in a mentally abusive relationship.
  • I really lost myself and found myself in my 20’s
  • I jumped out of that and get into personal growth
  • I became a master practitioner, trainer of therapy and hypnosis and coaching, and I transformed my life out of that
  • I took charge of everything emotionally and mentally
  • Even though I have a great attitude and mindset, my body is still constantly betraying me.
  • So I spent many years searching and never giving up
  • In 2008, I met my husband and we were watching these documentaries.
    Netflix was just started streaming, and we decided to go organic.
  • Unintentionally we started eating a whole foods diet
  • What I have been experiencing at the time besides diabetes and chronic adrenal fatigue was chronic infections for over a year. I have constant infections.
  • When we went organic and whole foods, my infections went away and my immune system boosted. That was the first thing that works
  • My entire adult life that was the first health move that we have met that had a positive result and so we kept chasing that and that led us the road to gluten free, grain free, and then eventually discovering a higher fat diet

 

  • When we start working with naturopathic physicians back in 2011, I started studying with them because they were fascinating and they are willing to teach me.
  • They said I should eat more eggs, eat more yolks and get more fats because I don’t have enough healthy fats
  • And so I unintentionally started the healthiest version of Ketogenic diet
  • And out of that, my hormones bounce for the first time in my adult life, and I became fertile and we conceived our son who is now almost 3 years old
  • I had a million failures before my body responded.
  • I also implemented healthy supplements along with this diet
  • The best advice was to stop exercising until I could get my nutrition and body balance
  • The reasons why I have cravings is because my body is so deplete in nutrients and all the vitamins
  • What I need to do is to give myself a break and start doing meditation and becoming more in touch with my plate
  • Bringing this healing diet and healing mindset is what set me on this journey
  • Now I am free of diabetes, I no longer have chronic infections, chronic adrenal fatigue and I no longer have my hormone issues
  • I am slowly and steadily losing weight
  • I spent all my 20’s incredibly sick and most of my 30’s really on the path though
  • That is why I love the healthy version of Keto, because I think a lot of people if they’ll just jumped in to Keto diet end up still eating processed foods
  • There’s a way to do Keto that is really healthy and balance, and there’s a way to do Keto in an unhealthy way.
  • Remember, Keto is like 8 cups of vegetables a day, lots of healthy fats and moderate clean protein
  • Sometimes, it is okay to fast and sometimes it is okay to have 4 meals a day
  • I no longer drink coffee. I love coffee but my body is rejecting it, and so I went to bulletproof tea
  • I love doing that first thing in the morning because that kicks off my energy

PCOS

  • If you look at in a cellular level, the body needs many bricks to make a house
  • All these sex hormones comes from the raw building blocks to make these hormones
  • The body uses a type of fat, which is cholesterol to make these hormones. Now, this type of fat is also used to make stress hormones, and the body’s is okay
  • The heart needs vitamin C to make collagen and elastin. Collagen is a raw building block. If you do not have enough to constantly repair the heart then you’ll get a heart attack
  • So if you’re under stress and you only have 25% needed healthy fats, the body will need more adrenaline
  • If you’re not consuming, digesting and absorbing enough healthy fats, then your body is only going to allocate what you do have to repairing things that are vital and keeping you functioning.
  • And so we need to look at what does the body needs to make healthy hormones
  • First thing is to eat 12 yolks a day.
  • Me and my husband eat 12 egg yolks a day
  • The healthy fats level was what brought my period back and I could not believe it.
  • Within the first ovulation, we conceived.
  • We were eating the egg yolks for a while.
  • Cholesterol medication does not stop you from eating hamburgers
  • I have cardiologists on my show say that cholesterol medication should almost be never be use and the only time they proven that cholesterol medication is useful is after someone had a heart attack
  • So fat is healthy for us, but we have to look at the quality of fats
  • Saturated fats great, but the fat from fries or fried food is unhealthy and would contribute to diabetes
  • Fat from fish, plants, eggs and nuts is incredibly healing
  • I have seen other have their hormones correct so fast because they were not deficient
  • The way to get away with menopausal hot flashes is eating those 12 eggs a day
  • You’ve got to take digestive enzymes too if you had your gallbladder removed or if you are not used to eating fat
  • If you are constipated the body will reabsorb the estrogen
  • And so we got to have 1 to 2 health bowel movements a day to prevent reabsorption of the estrogen
  • So the best thing to do if you’re eating fat is to slowly increase to give the liver to catch up
  • Every time we eat fat, it is stimulating the liver to detox the body
  • Fat should not be demonized because it is good for us
  • If I don’t drink my bulletproof tea and don’t take my digestive enzymes with it have to run to the bathroom
  • I can now eat a healthy fat and has no problem, not like when I just started Keto

THOUGHTS ABOUT FIBER

  • If you’re eating Keto you’re getting enough fiber
  • You should eat leafy green vegetables
  • Stay away from vegetables like, carrots, onion and tomato because that’s probably take you out of Ketosis
  • Figure out what vegetable you could stay with Ketosis with
  • Vegetables should be your fat vehicle
  • For a long time I have avoided oil because it goes rancid and so we end up consuming something that is causing theoretical damage
  • So I no longer do cooking oil but will consume oil as my supplement
  • Most of you plates should be vegetables
  • Healthy pooping is so rewarding because you are eliminating the toxins from your body
  • 3 times a day of bowel movement is perfect
  • Breathing and moving your body also helps you having a healthy bowel movements because you are getting yourself out of the stress mood
  • Eating in front of the TV, inside your car, over the sink is bad.
    Because now you are not digesting and absorbing your food
  • So take the time and walk before and after meal and calm your self down

 

WHAT WOULD YOU TELL SOMEBODY JUST STARTING OUT KETO

 

  • Dizziness can be low blood sugar and can also be low blood pressure
  • It can also be an electrolyte imbalance
  • When were first trying out to get into ketosis, it was hard
  • What I would say is that, start the Ketogenic diet on a Friday so that when the flu symptoms will come on, it could be on the weekend so you could just take it easy
  • When I had the Keto flu, I felt nauseous, tired and dizzy almost like ungrounded, and weak.
  • Because your body is used to making sugar and now it is just trying to convert over to fat-fueled
  • Sometimes people will take those Keto supplements that helped to kick it off and that actually would make the transition easier
  • I would also suggest to get a mineral supplement that has great amount of magnesium and calcium
  • Also get the potassium supplement, because once we get into Ketosis we are often potassium deficient until our body can balance out
  • And also, Ketosis tends to use up minerals
  • And so what I did was I took Epsom salt baths and drink lots of water
  • Keep eating, and if you’re nauseous, you have got to get on digestive enzymes
  • Some people get nauseous and won’t eat, but the purpose is you got to have more fat into so you could help kick off the Ketosis
  • Some people will do 3 days fast at the beginning, and then start the Ketogenic diet. That is just so harsh, and I really don’t recommend unless you’re working with a doctor that specializes in this

 

  • When you are in that Keto flu, drink fluids, bone broths, take you supplements, take your Epsom soap baths and just rest
  • And in a few days you’re going to wake up and feel like a million dollars
  • You’re going to have so much energy
  • When you’re in Ketosis, you jump out in bed with so much energy and you just feel so alive and amazing
  • You lose a lot of weight quickly because that water weight just dropped off from the inflammation
  • Keto flu and that dizziness is worth it to go through
  • So prepare yourself

ROUGH SPOTS

  • I was in Ketosis for 3 months then 4th of July happened
  • If you’re Keto, don’t tell your family.
    Because now, that starts a fight
  • All you have to do is say; “I don’t feel good when I eat that.”
    That ends argument
  • Now, I am just like, “That food does not make me feel good so I am going to avoid it” every time I go to friend’s house
  • Back on the bandwagon used to be a giant decision
  • Anytime that I run into a Keto problem has been a mindset issue
  • When you go off your program, don’t go off destroying your healthy lifestyle just because you have one bad meal
  • I just have to shift my mindset so that I would be internally motivated
  • I want to be in Ketosis because I feel amazing when I am in it
  • I do take intentional breaks, and I think that is the key
  • We should take intentional breaks to refuel and rest
  • Once you’re Keto adapted, choose 2 or 3 days to eat non-gluten grains or some foods you won’t normally get to enjoy
  • Being in Ketosis for a few weeks and being out for a few days, and coming back in is actually incredibly healing for the body
  • When in Ketosis if we don’t get enough variety fibers, they feed the healthy gut bacteria
  • The gut bacteria lose a lot of the diversity of the gut biome, and we when we go back to a diet that contains vegetable and fruits, we recover the gut biome
  • If you’re on a mission of losing weight you can be in Ketosis for 3 to 6 months or for a year. That is fine.
  • What helped me is being intentional
  • After I gave birth to my son my body went haywire so I got a test and I was allergic to eggs for a year
  • I avoided eggs for a year and I can eat them again
  • I have to figure out gluten-free, dairy-free and Ketogenic desserts, because I love desserts too
