I just love water and love the way it makes me feel when I drink a ton of it. Even my college age boys drink a gallon a day!
There are numerous health benefits of drinking water, which you can find on THIS BLOG POST. But don’t go there now, keep reading.
Many people say they can’t choke it down, don’t like the taste, or forget to drink it. That is something I really cannot relate to, but I can tell you how to drink more water, at least how I do it!
Every morning the first thing I do, after brushing my teeth, is drink a 16 glass of water with a squeeze of lemon. This hydrates me from the night time fast and gets the motor running.
After my cup of coffee, and quiet time, I make my green smoothie and use another 8 ounces of water. Find my smoothie recipe here
Next I slam down my super pooper concoction: Colon Cleanse fiber, the best tasting green powder I have found, and there goes another 8-10 ounces. So before I leave for the gym, I have already drank a liter.
Since I usually workout and teach a class or two, I always bring 2 liters of water to the gym with me. My favorite is this BPA-Free Camelbak because of the no spill top. I can’t tell you how many times I have spilt water on my keyboard, in my car, or near my bed in the middle of the night. This baby does not spill but it does take some getting used to the spout.
Or if you prefer glass, I love this Ello water bottle which comes in many pretty colors. My son actually has this cool stainless one by Hydro Flask which is supposed to be the hot new product. I also love this crazy one I got at TJ Max…and YES it is BPA free!
Depending on how hard my workout is, I usually consume about another 1 liter or so at the gym.
When I get home, I pour the remaining water over ice and hit the shower. Now in the shower, I typically do some oil pulling, (which you can read about in another blog post) and now I am on my 3rd liter.
Another great trick is to drink a glass 30 minutes before each meal and snack. This will fill your belly, so you eat less, and maybe even satisfy that hunger pang?
During the afternoon, I sip on either iced spearmint green or hibiscus tea. The green tea helps with fat burning and in an antioxidant and the hibiscus tea actually is beneficial in lowering blood pressure.
If you are not a tea drinker, you can make bubble water with this handy dandy Soda Stream which will carbonate your water and give you the feeling of drinking soda. All you need is a squeeze of lemon or lime and you will have a tasty treat. By adding a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar you will also be helping your body with detox and digestion.
Lastly, I LOVE making homemade lemon aid. Simply squeeze 6 or 7 lemons (i prefer meyer) and add 3T stevia. I can drink this stuff all day long and it is so good for you. Drinking lemon water balances your PH and flushes out toxins.
If you have a hard time keeping track of your consumption, simply put four hair bands around the top of your water bottle and every time you refill it, I take one off. So by the time the last one is off, you will have drank your whole gallon.
Many people argue about the need for drinking more water and that you only need to drink when you are thirsty. All I can say about that, is from the people I have worked with, that up their consumption, they feel better and the weight starts melting off.
So there you have it.
