#42 Trish Dropped 80 pounds on Keto

Meet Trish:

My Name is Patricia also known at fitnesz.trishie on Instagram. I’ve been on keto since Feb 2017. I work full time and also a mom of 2. I’m currently training for my first powerlifting meet in September. I’m currently 90% Keto Friendly diet, but the 10% I would intake Carbs (on my heavy lifting training days).

 

Keto has done so many benefits for me. Not only in physical appearance, but it has also has built my Confidence not just mentally telling my self “I want to be skinny”. Instead I want to be Strong and Beautiful & be Built Strong as a woman/mother.

ABOUT TRISH

  • Basically, I am from Instagram
  • That is the platform that I am on through out this journey
  • I just started as a casual journey log on for myself, as a progress of where I am going to be at in regards for the Ketogenic
  • In regards to that, my Instagram is going to be fitnesz.trishie
  • But it just started off basically me logging on and a lot of people were interested about it
  • I was not really aware of the Ketogenic community at all.
    It was just for me as a beginner
  • After my daughter was born, I was at the point where I was kind of getting depressed and I was not happy of how I feel physically and emotionally
  • And I had to find something that I personally would enjoy
  • When my baby girl turned 2 years old, I was like, you know what? I am done with the breastfeeding and everything. I gave all what I had to gave for my kids. She’s healthy and I was breastfeeding her for the whole 14 months
  • My boyfriend asked me if I heard about a diet called Ketogenic diet and I was like, no heard heard of it.
  • And he told me that it is just something about cutting out your carbs and high fat diet and I am like, “high fat? What? This is amazing!”
  • We just searched in the Internet and we were not following anybody.
  • We didn’t have a guideline with the diet so we were just going by of what felt right with us and that one, we started out on February of 2017
  • From then on, I have lost about 80 pounds and I am still actually dropping
  • That weight it varies because I am actually inputting more of the weight back because I am actually doing power lifting which is also kind of hard to do because my body was not used of me in taking carbs
  • And me being Filipino, we eat a lot of rice and lupia – all that good stuff so it was kind of hard for me to go to parties. That’s where it kind of began

 

  • I was thinking of what kind of fat are we talking about and he just went straightforward and said that I cannot eat rice or bread and anything that I like.
  • And I was like, “you know what? I have to do this, I have to start somewhere, let’s do it.”
  • We just went straight at it
  • I stopped the exact week. We did not have any rice and sugar which is my weakness
  • I did not have any Keto flu, which is amazing for me.
  • I did not have much energy as I would have had if I had carbs but I did not know the difference anymore. Everything is foreign
  • But I was not actually active at all too.
  • I never went to the gym at all. I did not do anything active when I was on my first week on Keto
  • After that, I was thinking that this is getting really good
  • From my first week, I dropped 15 pounds right away
  • I told myself not to weight because I am getting obsessed with the scale already because I was seeing results
  • But then I told myself that I will go ahead and try incorporating a workout or something that I love to do and that is swimming
  • I don’t do much of running and all of that
  • So I did swimming for almost 2 months and then decided to go get a personal trainer
  • Around May and June, I kind of tried more strength trainings
  • I did not know any gym equipment and did know how to maneuver a gym equipment so I hired a personal trainer that would actually teach me on how to use the equipment
  • He actually put me on a certain diet.
    I did like the diet but I actually also told him that I was in Keto so, he was kind of incorporating carbs just because he said that I need more energy
  • I tried it for that week and it was very hard
  • I felt bloated and very weak
  • He let me eat a lot of potatoes and rice which was very foreign in my body already
  • I was introduced by one of my great friends to my coach now
  • He introduced me into more of the strength training
  • I did not know that there was such a thing. I am very new on getting fit or even lifting
  • When I got introduced by him, it was my first time holding a barbell
  • When I lifted the weight he said that I was pretty strong
  • He was asking what kind of diet I was on and I told him Keto and of course, that hold back
  • I have been strength training and I am actually incorporating it with a little bit of carbs here and there just because he wants me to build muscle and have a little bit more strength
  • I started lifting on October of last year and still going till this day and I got to the gym 5 days in a week
  • I am not tracking my macros right now, but I am going to start doing that
  • I am tracking total carbs
  • Before I don’t know at all because I am just going on how my body felt
  • I love deadlifts
  • I am pushing myself to do more, but I also don’t want to hurt myself, but I know I can do more
  • What kind of surprise me I regards with lifting journey of mine is that, I have barely done it since October of last year and I am such in this wonderful feeling of how I love it so much is because I am incorporated with people that are in it and I know people that are willing to teach me and workout with me, and I have such a wonderful coach
  • I am just into it so much
  • Me incorporating Keto with it, I would like to be able to share Keto and powerlifting at the same time that you do not have to incorporate so much carbs

 

ADVICE

  • For me, I would say that what helped me a lot is stay away from parties because Filipino people love to party and they would have a lot of lechon that is a big platter of pig
  • What helped me a lot I think is the texture of the rice was the one I was looking for, so I have to find something that had the similarities what rice is to me
  • So I tried cauliflower and broccoli rice and it was the same. The texture for me workout

 

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MEAL?

  • I love pastas before my Keto diet and I love lasagna
  • The first major meal that I made was eggplant lasagna and it was amazing
  • I just put ground turkey in it instead of beef

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS? WHEN AND WHERE IS YOUR POWERLIFTING COMPETITION?

  • In regards with that one, we were thinking about this September coming up but I am not quite sure
  • We have not announced where we are going to be competing
  • That would be announced as soon as we finalize because I still have to register
  • I am 5’4
  • All of the lifts are my favorite but deadlift is one of my things because I feel like use my whole entire body and exert all my entire effort
  • And squats at the same time is like I have to balance it out, I have to use all my mentality
  • My squats are not that great probably right now

 

HOW MUCH DO YOU LEG PRESS?

  • That one I do probably 4 plates of 45 each side

 

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO A NEWBIE JUST STARTING OUT KETO?

  • I would say, just take it easy
  • Have some another person that can support you in the same diet you are on, because I am with the person that is into Keto so both of us are like, “let’s do this.”
  • I am very well disciplined when you tell me to do things
  • I am very motivated on certain things especially now on foods. Before I would just shove everything in my mouth
