Welcome to another episode of High Energy Girl. This show has been on hiatus for a couple months just due to a crazy schedule in my life with work and with studying a new therapy called Bioenergetix. I am super excited to share that with you, but I also wanted to kind of step back and tell you a little bit about myself.
For those that don’t know me, I am a health coach and personal trainer I have been studying nutrition since 2007 became a certified health coach in 2011 and have been in fitness pretty much all my life.
One of my passions is on helping women to actually age stronger. We are all going to grow older in years but the difference between strength and weakness between decay and life is a huge thing and instead of taking all these crazy medications to alleviate symptoms of disease let’s get down to the root cause and avoid those toxic medications in a holistic approach to natural health. This can be food, fitness, bioenergetix opening up those energy pathways self-care, meditation, mindfulness and so much more.
One of the things that makes me crazy is, I found out that a good friend of mine is on medication for high blood pressure, cholesterol and thyroid and I said, “hey I know that I can help you with those” and she’s like, “no it’s okay I’m fine” and I’m just like, really you’re going to take all those meds with all of these horrible side effects and be fine with it? No way!
But of course, because she’s a good friend, I didn’t push. I don’t want to completely abandon our relationship but those are the types of things that we can change.
We don’t have to put toxic meds in our body we just need to get down to the very basic level of what is creating these ailments in the first place and that is the type of topics we are going to be talking about in the upcoming episodes throughout the rest of the year.
Now, I also have been a chronic dieter in the past where I’ve been on every single diet just always trying to lose weight gain it back and just been a chronic yo-yo dieter.
If I look at my genetics in my history, both of my parents have been overweight pretty much their whole lives and also have been on every diet and so, I kind of joined forces with them and did the same thing. Mind you, besides being pregnant, I’ve probably only been about 25 pounds overweight and so. But because of my lifestyle with my parents and my family, I mean, I’ve been on every single diet possible from the Cambridge diet way back to Weight Watchers to Beverly Hills diet, the cabbage soup and diet body for life. I can’t remember all the names of them but I was a chronic yo-yo dieter. I developed eating disorders and exercise disorders. I exercise for hours and hours a day and it just kind of became crazy and then what happened was, I found the Ketogenic lifestyle which basically gave me freedom.

I could not believe that eating fat could be healthy. I listen to podcasts, I read books, I looked up articles. I looked at the science and I was just mind blown when I really understood.
Because I was under the old school dogma of high cholesterol and that, this was not going to be a healthy way to live and forever, I was avoiding fat.
I grew up in the 80s and everything was nonfat and low fat.
Do you member the nonfat mayo? I mean, what did they do? They take out the fat, they replace it with sugar and it was actually pretty disgusting. But that’s what I was afraid of.
I was always afraid of fat. It’s like you could have a bagel but you can’t have cream cheese, you can have a potato but you can’t have butter and I remember like one of my favorite foods when I was like in college was baked potatoes with ketchup and nonfat cottage cheese.
Looking back, it sounds pretty crazy. It actually tasted pretty good or I would do potatoes with a can of tuna and some rice wine vinegar.
I was always afraid of the fat and so therefore, I was always hungry.
And so, I did Weight Watchers and I had quite a bit of success in counting the points but I felt like I was always eating because I was always going with these small little meals with no fat.
So, they were high carb high fiber and that way, there were very little points and I remember doing like really low calorie English muffins with Boca burgers on them and also eating like non-fat beans, nonfat tortillas, nonfat cheese and making burritos.
Anyways, once I stopped counting points the weight, all piled back on.
But then I found Keto and I realized that what I was doing by eating all this fat after all the research. I really understood what I was doing is that, cholesterol is not our enemy.
Our body needs cholesterol and if we are not eating it our body will make it and so I started allowing myself to eat the whole egg instead of just the egg white because God made an egg, he made it as one whole perfect food and here we are eating egg whites. And so, I started eating whole eggs. I started eating grass-fed ground beef instead of ground turkey breast or ground chicken breast that we had, like hardly no fat and no flavor.
Honestly, I have a really hard time eating poultry and I started just changing the way I looked at food and I started needing less of it. Meaning, that I was being more mindful to my hunger cues and really trying to pay attention to was I eating because I felt like it was time to eat or was I eating, because my body really needed it and then when I was able to eat more holesterol it actually helps with my hormones and I started having lot less hormonal symptoms, like hot flashes, not being able to sleep well at night and the ups and downs with a mood.
What I learned is that, a lot of the mood swings happen because of the blood sugar rollercoaster and that hit that your brain, takes when you’re eating sugar and so when you’re not eating sugar, it falls and it crashes.
Anyhow, it just was a game changer for me and people say that, “oh you need to eat to fuel your workouts.” Well, that’s not necessarily true because when you do Keto, when you’re a Ketogenic fat burner, when your body needs fuel, it will draw from your fat sources versus when I used to run half marathons and I would bonk that means like you run out of glucose
Your body needs energy. What it will do is, it will convert protein to energy like your muscle. It will convert your muscle to glucose.
I don’t want to bore you guys with all the science but, it’s called gluconeogenesis and if you’re a glucose burner your body will pull from your muscle, however if you were primarily a ketone burner, when your body needs fuel it will pull from your stored body fat.
Would you rather lose your muscle or your stored fat I’m going? I am going to guess that you want to lose your stored fat.
For me, getting past all the nutritional dogma was pretty hard. It was really easy for me to eat more protein and have less carbs but, it was hard for me to add more fat but I’m telling you that now, that I know what I know the fat is the game changer. Fat is the healing. You don’t need high fat to lose weight per se, it’s helpful though because it actually makes you satisfies your hunger. It makes you fuller longer. But you don’t need a high fat ketogenic diet for weight loss, but to heal your body, you do.
And so, that is one thing that’s kind of hard to understand and to add still even today. It is really hard for me but I do try to do it.
In the morning, I don’t eat breakfast. Most days I’d say, 90% of the time I don’t ever eat breakfast. I don’t usually eat until lunchtime but I do put coconut oil or MCT oil in my coffee and it taste really good and it boosts my energy.
In the morning, for those of you who know me, I work out pretty darn hard and I always go fasted just with a little bit of MCT oil in my coffee, usually I put a teaspoon of MCT and I try not to eat dairy. I go back and forth because I absolutely love goat cheese and so I’m not always perfect with that but I try really hard to not eat dairy so I don’t put any like heavy cream or butter in my coffee.
A lot of people have dairy sensitivities and don’t realize it but, that’s a really good way to actually initiate yourself into the Keto lifestyle and you don’t want to do too much.
I find that a lot of people say, “oh good I love this, I can do more” but if you have too much fat in your morning coffee, it will definitely break your fast and I do believe that’s not what you really want to do you want to stay in a fasted state.
And then, be mindful of your hunger. Are you hungry at nine o’clock, or ten o’clock? Listen to your body and keep stretching it. If you think you’re hungry, try to have a little bit of water or fluid. Drink a lot of water but try drinking before eating to see if it’s actually real hunger or if you were just thirsty. Oftentimes, our minds mistaken hunger for actual thirst.
So, that’s a really good way to do it.
And if you’re brand-new to this lifestyle, on my blog, highenergygirl.com at the very top it says keto calculator, you can go on that and calculate your macros and your protein, fat and carbohydrates in grams. That’s kind of how we measure all that and so you can go to the blog and calculate your body’s macros because they’re different for everyone and when it says how many carbs do you want to have I would say stick with about 25 when you’re just getting started.
There’s a question that comes up often and it’s, what is total carbs versus what are net carbs.
Total carbs are the actual carbs in the food and net carbs are subtracting the fiber. It’s funnybecause in Europe, they actually only have net carbs on the food, so they don’t even talk about total carbs because the fiber grams are non-digestible, but
there’s certain foods that some of us call like Franken foods, certain foods that are super-duper duper high fiber so it makes up for the low carb amount. Say like, a quest bar and I’m not slamming quest bars because they really work well for a lot of people. So, say, a quest bar has, I’m going to get this totally wrong, so don’t eat them because they’re dairy but say if it says that has you know 20 carbs but 15 grams of fiber then the net carbs are only 5, which is fairly low, but I prefer to get my carbs from leafy vegetables or any type of a vegetable. I love Brussels sprouts, broccoli and broccoli sprouts. Those are amazing but I like to get my carbs from vegetables and a little bit of nuts.
I don’t do a lot of nuts because I tend to overdo on nuts or on coconut yogurt that’s really good
because there’s carbs and let’s face it, I love wine so I only drink French wine most of the time or Italian wine but I saved my carbs for wine.
So, you have to find what works for you, what works for your body. But there is a lot of resources out there. I try to provide a lot of resources out there on my blog and on my YouTube channel. I have lots of videos there about keto but I also feel like everybody’s keto needs to
be a little different so if you have a therapeutic reason for going with this diet then you want to have more fat. If you have a really serious health condition such as cancer, PCOS Alzheimer’s, or epilepsy, you’re going to want to do like a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 ratio. Meaning, if you eat 50 grams of protein a day then, you want 100 to 150 grams of fat a day.
What I’m really most excited about right now is about the Bioenergetix. Because medical doctors look at the biology and the chemistry of your body but Eastern medicine like,
Chinese medicine, it looks at your field, your energetic field and that’s like things like acupuncture, acupressure and it also so also if you think about this.
With bioenergetics, it combines the Eastern medicine philosophy with physics.
I’m really new at this and I have not completed my training on a percent but I still am working with clients and it is just mind-boggling how we can help people. So, if you want more information on the bioenergetix, which I’m super excited about you can head on over to my blog highenergygirl.com/bioenergetix with an X okay and there’s lot of videos there and lots of
resources and I’ll be talking about that in upcoming episodes but I just wanted you guys to know what I’ve been up to and why this show has been silent and now we’re back.
I’m going to have lots of guests on the show with different nuggets that you can chew on every day.
Things that you can do to create a healthier body and one of the things that I’m going to say today since this is Thanksgiving week is gratitude.
I’m going to challenge you to write down three things every night before you go to bed that you were thankful for that day and let’s see how long you can keep that going because one thing I’ve learned, it is impossible to have depression and gratitude at the same time and we are so blessed to have such fortunate things. Right now, in California there is a massive fire going on that is several hours away from me but the smoke here is horrible. Stay inside, keep your animals inside, don’t go outside and it’s pretty bad here. But, if I’m complaining about that, I have to catch myself and go, oh my gosh like I am so fortunate that I still have my home or I still have my life or the people around me.
There’s been so many people killed, so many homes and destroyed by the fire. It is really sad.
So, everything that we’re experiencing, there’s something that’s worse happening so we want to focus on what we’re thankful for not what we’re despairing over.
Your body doesn’t know the difference between imagination and reality. Your mind only believes what you feed it, so you want to feed it the good in your life. Not that you can’t acknowledge the bad and experience it, but let it go, release it, feel the feelings and release it but focus on the gratitude, focus on the joy, focus on the high vibration activities in your life and kind of release the rest that doesn’t serve you.
Your challenge is for now till the end of the year, write down every night before you go to bed three things that you’re thankful for and make them different. Maybe you’re going to say the first time like I’m thankful for my spouse and I’m thankful for my children, I’m thankful for my home. But then the next day, make it different.
