Yesterday I spent the day with my mother and realized that she is growing older. It made me so sad when I realized that I have been so busy taking care of my kids, my home, my hubby, and my work, that I have neglected spending time with her and my step dad. And now I am very sad and full of regret.
She and my step dad are such wonderful people, yet they are aging so quickly since they have had to take care of my brother for the past 14 years and he is a lot of work. He had a motorcycle accident and suffered a brain injury. He doesn’t talk and has partial paralysis on his right side. So they have to do everything for him, and I mean EVERYTHING! Since they are getting older, it is wearing on them heavily!
However, I cannot turn back time, I can only do things differently now. I committed to going over to see them once a week, helping them out, or taking them to lunch, or a movie.
So what are your parents up to? Have you seen them lately? Have you enjoyed listening to their stories? Or are they in your prayers to the angels? Pick up the phone… give them a call or better yet, drive over and say hello.
The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That’s why it is called the present. Alice Morse Earle
