ABOUT HEATHER

  • I think the Universe brought me to the Keto lifestyle
  • For months and months, I just felt really down on myself
  • I have always been an online entrepreneur
  • I just felt like I was lacking inspiration
  • I had carried a lot of weight, I had twins and then after, I just gained more weight and also started to experience postpartum depression
  • I was in a really tough spot in my life
  • The synchronicity was everyone was talking about Keto and then having a really good friend through Instagram, who is just a huge advocate for Keto
  • I kept seeing Keto everywhere and I just had to learn more about it
  • On January 1st, I decided to set this resolution
  • I had seen a lot of things about Keto, but was confused on how to actually get started
  • I was afraid of change, but on January 1st, I ripped the band aid off
  • It was an interesting and magical experience. I started a Facebook group for my journey and started documenting the stuff that I was experiencing
  • The next thing I knew, we got over 5 thousand people on the group and it just kept growing. Now, we have almost 30 thousand people on the group
  • It was the most amazing experience of this sense of community, probably the most profound that I have felt so far in my life
  • Through that experience, I was able to lose over 50 lbs and completely embodied who I am
  • It took me from January to September to lose the initial weight
  • I started recognizing that sometimes, the scale was not the most important thing
  • And so, my perspective started on change on what my goal was
  • My physical weight loss was really motivating, but on the other side, I also felt more in control of my thinking
  • I started recognizing that I can deliberately think again and be more inspired in my business
  • All of a sudden, I was overcome with positivity and inspiration
  • I am a business and life coaching for women. Essentially, I help women reclaim their purpose again
  • I understand that, in order to show up in the world and achieve your goals you have to internally believe that you are worthy and deserving
  • It’s two sided, marketing strategy and spiritual, mindset strategy
  • We help the high achieving or ambitious woman figure what they can do to get from A-Z
  • I have realized that Keto is really helping my own mindset, which is an incredible thing to bring into my business
  • If you are someone who really wants to make a lifestyle change, you really to truly believe that you are deserving of those things
  • It takes some time for our beliefs to catch up with the life that we want to live
  • When you are embarking on a health journey, I think it is a really excellent time to invest in your emotional health as well
  • My eldest will be 4 years old this summer and my twins just turned 2
  • It was actually a really traumatic pregnancy
  • I gained a lot of weight and I had to stay in the hospital for the last 6 weeks before they were born
  • It was a really crazy and life threatening experience
  • I realize that this kind of eating can be very personal
  • From the outside looking in, it can seem like there’s just one way to do Keto, but there are so many different ways and it can be personalized for you
  • When I started my Keto journey, I was kind of looking at how other people were doing it and following various recipes
  • I started to realized that I really needed to put my scientific hat on a little bit and that is why I love tracking, I love macros because whenever you feel stuck, you can just take it back to tracking and get back on track
  • If it is not working right, take it back to tracking to see what works for you and maybe you can find some hidden carbs that you did not realize before
  • For me, I was probably not eating the correct portions of a lot of things
  • Nuts were slowing down my progress
  • I recognized that I need to be more considerate of portions sizes with both nuts and berries
  • There were things that I could do and I took on this attitude of always doing the best that I can with what I know right now and if I learn something new that helps me tomorrow, then I am going to adapt this to my life and I am just going to make this work for me
  • And also understanding that there are a lot of ways that people are successful and I needed to find my own personal route
  • I started off with total carbs because when I first started the Keto experience, there was a lot of information that I did not understand
  • And so, I didn’t learn about net carbs until a few weeks in
  • That’s why I always say that if you want to start Keto, start from where you are and grow from there
  • I was just really basic
  • I was eating thing things that I knew had only approved ingredients
  • When I started tracking, it was a new experience for me
  • I did not come from healthy eating prior to Keto, so the whole experience of shifting my mindset about what nutrition means and how it affects me, was a whole 180.
  • When I first started Keto, I was a full-time stay-at-home mom
  • It wasn’t until maybe 4 or 5 months into Keto that I started intentionally working out because that was the next change I should make

OTHER HEALTH BENEFITS

  • Mental clarity is a huge thing for me
  • I have more energy. And with 3 kids, I would not be able to manage them unless I felt as good as I do now and have the energy that I have
  • The energy is really the biggest benefit
  • When I am in ketosis, I feel I have this next level of energy and inspiration
  • Ketosis just boosts me
  • Now, I can be an intentional thinker again
  • I really needed to create a new set of beliefs and daily thoughts so that I can be empowered
  • Intermittent fasting really works for me
  • Fasting is a wonderful way for me to feel like I am channeling intuition
  • I stop eating earlier in the night. For breakfast, I just drink water to get my body going, and I don’t start eating until around noon
  • We have energy in our bodies. We produce a frequency. Our thoughts outline our lives
  • The energy work I do is to help somebody take inventory of thoughts, beliefs and feelings that are guiding them every day through mediation and intentional practices
  • It is more of mental energy and physical energy
  • I have all these teaching and philosophies on how we can best show up in our lives and manifest our goals
  • I had implemented these types of practices with my business and in some aspects also with my marriage and relationships in my life, but I never really applied them to my health
  • I felt kind of challenged on how I could make it work for my health because my confidence was a huge component that held me back from feeling the way I wanted
  • And I told myself that your thoughts create your identity and through your self-identity, you can be a bad-ass
  • I have learned a lot about myself in regards to my health and what food means to me, I have learned from watching my mom
  • When I was really working on feeling these experiences that I had, I had to look at my relationship with my family and my mom and her mom
  • I realized that I was born to imperfect people and they experienced life and they were teaching the lessons I needed to know
  • Through that it helped me to find who I was at the dinner table
  • I don’t have to use food as a way of positive or negative reward
  • Sometimes, I have to revisit to really be able to feel and acknowledge how that shift allowed me to open my eyes at the dinner table and figure out what food meant for me
  • I don’t like cooking
  • At first, when I became a big blogger in the Keto space I thought, “do I have to?” and I said, “nope”
  • Just like Marie Kondo would say, cooking does not bring me joy
  • My Keto meal are very easy to create
  • For breakfast, I do a fattier bulletproof coffee
  • For lunch, I like to keep it simple
  • For dinner, it’s just salmon, broccoli, cheese sauce – all the things that I love
  • When it comes to desserts you have to ask yourself, “do I need this?”
  • Be present in the experience
  • Listen to your body instead of being distracted
  • I believe that just trying to change your actions in your life is the wrong approach to creating a lasting impact
  • I changed my thoughts about myself and my thoughts about what I deserved
  • I am deserving of a body that makes me feel good about myself and that was the biggest shift, and lesson that I have learned from this entire experience
  • Change is great
  • We are here to grow and evolve and to have a really fun and joyful human experience
  • Change was not becoming someone that I am wasn’t, it was becoming who I really am

ADVICE

  • Start where you are and you’ll learn as you go
  • Even if you feel that you don’t know everything, you don’t need to
  • Don’t buffer. Like when your computer is syncing and you’ll get that little wheel as you’re waiting for your internet to catch up
  • You don’t need to be an expert, just go
