Meet Anthony:

Show Notes:

ABOUT ANTHONY

  • I am 25 years old
  • I have a partnership over at Perfect Keto
  • I have been in nutrition space for a long time – 4 or 5 years
  • I started health coaching for a bit and that led me into the low carb keto space where then I got in touch with my previous job
  • I worked in a keto friendly wine company for 2 years and that all led me to here
  • Over the past couple years, I have been going to pretty much all of the major health conferences and health events – keto focus and non-keto focus
  • So, I got a pretty good grasp on what the current trends are
  • I got certified by Precision Nutrition and John Berardi is the founder of that
  • I tried early intermittent fasting where you eat breakfast and lunch, and then skip dinner
  • I tried this for a little bit about a year ago and it was awesome
  • It takes a little bit adjusted at first, but if you have someone to do with it is a lot easier
  • Fasting into that window really helps accelerate the deep sleep and get those more hormonal benefits
  • Physically, I slimmed down a bit
  • I think it’s because if I do it traditionally, I tend to eat more at night
  • It was a couple of weeks experiment
  • I was naturally hungry in the morning, which is good because I haven’t felt that in a while and at night, I was not hungry at all
  • I usually stop around 1:00 or 2:00 and I was not hungry anymore
  • I was really into nutrition because growing up, my dad was a body builder
  • Technically, I got into fitness around 15 or 16 years old and that started my journey
  • I lost 15 pounds one summer and that kind of really just kick in my journey to health
  • I cooked for a family all throughout high school and just being in touch with cooking got me so much closer to food
  • So, that kind of lead me into nutrition
  • You can exercise all you want, but you can’t outrun about diet
  • We’ve gotten so focus on some of the macro elements too much in these diets
  • But for me, it all just boils back to quality. I make sure that all my food has the highest quality source
  • I am a firm believer that quality is more important
  • 89% of my shopping is done at the farmer’s market
  • Most people think that farmer’s market is more expensive, but it’s really about the same
  • I love quality food and I have gotten sick so for me, I just invest for my health
  • People have no problem spending $50 at a bar, but make a hundred excuses on why they can’t spend the extra $3 for quality
  • I got into Keto 3 years ago, and so I have been doing it for 3 years now
  • I was pretty low carb and did intermittent fasting way back
  • And I got in bulletproof diet and really focusing on the quality
  • I really started Keto because my grandmother was diagnosed with lymphoma
  • So, I went to a Keto conference in Tampa where Dr. Dominic D’Agostino was speaking and a bunch of the leading researcher in the field
  • Since then, I never really looked back
  • I just love the way I feel about it
  • I have always eaten a lot meat and vegetables, so it’s really easy for me to eliminate the rest of the things
  • The health benefits that I got are, I never really get sick, and the focus during the day is a lot more better as supposed to eating more higher carbs
  • I also think that it’s a mind over matter case in a lot of instances where people negatively affirm this thing that’s going to happen in your body
  • I think we get into this trap of self-causing this food allergies, because we are just constantly affirming the negative things
  • The mind is one of the strongest tool in the body, and I think that I have been able to get more in touch with my mind by being keto
  • Keto is a really great reset for your mind. It helps get your mind into a stable point
  • I think Keto is an investment for your health
  • Cancer kind of run in my family and I don’t want that to happen ever again in my family, I don’t want it happen to me or any of my friends
  • If it starts to happen, I want to point them to the right direction and that’s why I have been going to these conferences for a lot of years
  • The carnivore diet is such a great reset for the body as well especially for the gut
  • For me, it’s the ultimate elimination diet
  • I started doing it back in March
  • I tried it out, had amazing results and I felt great the whole time
  • It took a little bit of time for my energy to get back up, but it did
  • I leaned out to the lowest weight I have been since college and even high school
  • It was nice because I was getting a lot of protein
  • So, my strength at the gym seem to increase because I was eating so much protein
  • Our founder here in Perfect Keto, Anthony Gustin, he did carnivore and had amazing results too
  • The people I see always have the best results even on their blood work are all doing it in a way that’s quality carnivore
  • With carnivore, your body has to get used to of a lack of fiber and other fats coming from different sources
  • Other than that, I love it
  • My diet right now is 80%-90% carnivore
  • I focus in quality meats and eating liver too
  • There’s a bunch of different ways to make the liver taste good and I think it’s picking the right liver too
  • In my experience, I have tried every type of liver now
  • Lamb and venison have the mildest flavor to me
  • In cooking it, mushrooms and onions are a great pair with liver
  • Then, I sauté them up with ghee, add rosemary and salt
  • I am a weirdo and I can eat it raw
  • You can find a lamb liver at the farmer’s market
  • The other 10% are food that I really enjoy
  • I will have wine and when I am having wine, I will make sure that it is sugar free and it is a dry farm wine
  • And I love coffee and a 100% chocolate too
  • I feel like with carnivore that, if you are having trouble with your bowel movements, having one meal with fiber can end up flushing that out
  • If you are really struggling with a health issue, then you should probably do grass-fed meat and water for 30 days
  • Give it a shot and see how you feel
  • But, if protein powder is to increase your protein or calories, then that’s carnivore
  • I can’t wait for the day that tai chi and qi gong will become widely practiced
  • I have done a couple of qi gong exercises too and I really like it
  • It’s like very gentle and meditative movement which is really awesome
  • I think that macros can be a really good tool to help you hit various specific goals
  • But, I think at first, being intuitive and kind of just eat when you are hungry and really just stick to quality food would be the most helpful
  • It’s really important to listen to your body and eat as much as you want
  • I think realizing that it’s not a lot and your body is going to use that calories in a different way is a good perspective to have going into it
  • When you get more mineral density from something, it will really help set the foundation
  • When I was coaching people, I noticed that the number one thing people struggled with is energy, but it wasn’t anything food related, it was a salt thing
  • I told people to increase their salt and as soon as they did, everything changed
  • Making sure you are getting enough electrolytes is really good
  • People think water is hydration, but you don’t stay hydrated if you don’t have electrolytes to hold into place
  • People always know me as the “salt guy”

PERFECT KETO

  • It depends on what the flavor you are drinking
  • The chocolate is my favorite
  • If you are mixing it with a good amount of water, it should not have some bitterness
  • The vanilla does not have any bitterness too
  • That’s one of my favorite supplements too because you can use it any time of the day and it helps me focus
  • If I want the same type of mental energy, I’ll just go an entire glass of ketones
  • It’s really easy to make a chocolate smoothie with anything we have
  • If you do morning workouts, instead of getting a coffee, I would just grab a ketones and drink that during my workout or before
  • The new flavors are just going to take it to the next level
  • It’s crazy to me how a lot of people attribute with how they feel with the food that they eat
  • Another way that people can test the way they react to food is blood sugar itself and really cheap too
  • The first that I have done was the pinner test
  • And then I have another done and it did not show any major sensitivities at all
  • I think food sensitivity tests are all over the place because your gut bacteria changes depending on you ate could really impact that as well
  • With carnivore, you just get back to that baseline
  • Just eliminate everything and see how you do with quality and you can go from there by adding back in slowly
  • You can measure something when you are in tuned with your body
