My career in health and fitness started in 2011 when I was teaching group exercise at the UCF Rec and Wellness Center. This included a variety of bootcamp style classes and several running programs (half marathon training, stadium runs, etc). I did this for 2 years before I got my personal training certification and began coaching clients 1-on-1. After graduation I became a group personal training coach at Orangetheory Fitness while still training clients on the side. I moved down to south Florida working at several different OTF locations and am now head coach at my current studio in West Boca Raton. To date I’ve coached nearly 4500 classes and have seen a wide variety of clientele, from highly conditioned triathletes to people who have little to no workout experience. My goal is always to get the most out of my members/clients and push them to do things they never thought they could do.

ABOUT TYLER
I have been involved in the fitness industry really most of my working life
I started in college
I went to the University of Central Florida
I started off as just a fitness attendee
I have always been involved in sports and exercise
Before I graduated, I found a job working for Orangetheory Fitness
All in all, I have been in the fitness industry for 9 years
Along with Orangetheory I also train clients on the side
So, I get to see both aspects and work with people in both levels
The more people I could help, the more I feel fulfilled
The many things I see benefit wise, is not just the results, the transformation in their body, they are feeling better, or they have more energy and that’s all good, but it is more the mindset that’s transforming inside them
That’s one thing that I am really trying to bring home to people
Most people that come into Orangetheory, they have never really been pushed in that sense
So, it takes some time to really get them into that mindset
Anyone can do it. That’s the main thing
Anybody that is able to get to that “push yourself mindset” if you have to let it happen and that you have to be willing to go through the steps to get there
The mind is so powerful
Every now and then, you have to push your limits
If you want to see growth in your body or muscle form, lean muscles tissue or you want to see fat go away, you really have to push it
In order for you to develop strong body, you have to have strong mind
ADVICE
My first thing for them would be find a personal trainer
Find someone that they could look to for help
Working out can be a dangerous thing
Most people sign up for gym, they go in and they go to what’s familiar
And that’s not going to get them the results they truly want
So, really hiring an expert and do some research and get a couple of references
Most good personal trainers have some good social media followers
Find somebody who can help them and get them going
If you don’t have that kind of resource or money for a personal trainer, then find the next best thing
Join some boot camp classes or go online, like YouTube
Learn first and apply
Running is so quad dominant
Especially if you are running on a flat surface
There is no hamstring activation so, their weights come forward, their knees go over their toes and all that weight goes to their knees
And that’s why you need a personal trainer
My ideal rule is 3, because 2 days a week, you can get away with it
I think 3 days is the safe number, because if you are only doing once or twice a week, it’s very sporadic and not committable
A lot of time, if you are working out one or two days a week, your body’s going to forget what you did on the last session
There’s no muscle memory
It’s like starting from scratch over and over again
And it is a lot harder to get results
3 days a week is enough where you get that day of recovery, you are able to work on different things, your body is going to stay in motion, you are burning enough calories and you are not going to get burned up initially
Rest is more important than the work itself
As trainers and coaches, we have all been there
Rest is everything and sleep is everything
I always tell my members that if there is any way that they can get some extra sleep at night, it would really help them recovery better than anything they’ll do
Because that’s when the body is fully shutting down, muscle repairing, fats burning and everything
A lot of people think that 6 to 7 hours of sleep is enough, but really, we need 8 to 10 hours
If you have a day that you can sleep for a good 8 hours, take advantage of it
But it all kind of comes down to what are your choices or what’s going on with your body throughout the day, what you are doing throughout the day, how much stress is in your life and what’s keeping you up at night
People don’t realize that even though they have fallen asleep, all your thoughts stays with you for a couple of hours
So, if are thinking about something before bed, write it all down so you don’t have to think about it
I have tried that for a couple of weeks and it helped me
WORDS OF WISDOM
Do not do negative self-talk
Do not start the day negative
Find things you are thankful for and just start off a positive note
Because more than likely, the rest of your day, you are going to see the positive things rather than the negative
That’s one thing that everyone can do to help their mind and see more improvement in their life
CLAIM TO FAME
I try to be as down to earth and humble
But I think for me, it’s more just what I do for a living
Coaching is my biggest personal accomplishment and I love doing it
