Today we’re going to talk about simple ways that you can boost your immunity
It is very important to take care of your biology and boost your immunity so you can fight against germs, viruses, infections and so much more.
Your immune system is your natural self-defense. So how can you improve it?
Tip 1: Get more sleep.
It’s not just about the hours you sleep, it’s about the quality and the timing of your sleep.
First off, you want a cool, darkroom. No blue light before bed, so no screens: mobile phones, iPads, or TVs because all of these will shut down your melatonin production and will make sleep more difficult.
I love to wear an eye mask and earplugs so my hubby won’t wake me up when he is reading.
Sleep timing is also really important. You want to make sure that you are sound asleep between the hours of 11:00 pm and 3:00 am. This is the sweet spot of the circadian rhythm – when your body does all its repairs.
Sleep is of the utmost importance if you want to boost the tip of your immune system.
Tip 2: Hydration
We need to hydrate our bodies. I always say, “a gallon a day will keep the doctor away.”
We want to make sure that we’re getting plenty of fluids into our bodies. I say a gallon a day because it makes me and my clients feel the best. Drink a liter by nine, another liter by 12, a liter by three and a liter by six. That way you’re not up all night having to go to the bathroom and disrupting your juicy sleep.
First thing in the morning, when you wake up, you’re dehydrated. It’s been eight hours since you’ve had any water. So drink a 16-ounce glass of water right away which will get you started on your gallon.
Herbal tea, sparkling water or infused water also count toward your gallon. If you are on a ketogenic diet, KETOLYTE, which is my little recipe, will actually help you with your electrolyte replacement and it also counts towards your water.
Tip 3: Eat lots of foods that are high in antioxidants and polyphenols.
Some of my favorites are high-quality organic coffee. I really like the bulletproof brand because I know that they decaffeinate it in a really healthy way. I allow myself one cup of caffeine in the morning prior to hitting the gym and then I will have another cup of decaf later.
Dark chocolate is really good. My favorite brand is Lily’s because it has no sugar added, it is sweetened with stevia and it tastes great.
Another favorite is broccoli sprouts. They are super easy to make. You just buy a seed sprouting tray and get some broccoli seeds. In four days you have a nutrient-packed topping for your salad.
You want to eat other nutrient-dense foods like arugula or cilantro which are great to add to your salad. Right now, it’s winter so we’re using the kale and cabbage mix that you can get at Trader Joe’s. Instead of just filling your bowl with lettuce, fill it with things that are very nutrient-dense and have lots of good antioxidants.
Some other good foods are turmeric, garlic, ginger, and bone broth, all of those will help build a stronger immune system.
Please avoid sugar and carbohydrates that create inflammation in your body and also lower
your immunity.
Tip 4: Oil pulling.
This is an ancient Ayurvedic practice where you put a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth and you swish it around for 20 minutes and then spit it out.
Coconut oil is antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal. So, when you put it in your
mouth it’s like a magnet and it pulls all the germs out of your mouth. They kind of glue onto the coconut oil when you swish it around. When you spit it out, the bad bacteria from your body goes with it. And a side note, it whitens your teeth.
Tip 5: Stress management
We are all faced with stress especially if you live here in Silicon Valley. I call it busy land because it’s just kind of crazy.
Use stress management techniques to help you come into. your body and out of your head. One of my favorites is meditating in the morning.
Another great practice is Qi Gong. Qi Gong is like a moving meditation from China where you
swirl energy and you build your life force. The Chinese have been doing it for thousands of years and it is an amazing gift that you can give to yourself every day. This will boost up your Jing which is your life energy cup, which you only have a certain amount of. And remember you can’t serve from an empty cup. So you need to replenish your energy.
For meditation, I love the app CALM. you can pick a program to support your needs at the moment and enjoy a soothing, guided meditation.
Some other great stress relievers are deep breathing exercises, yoga, and walking outside. If you have a dog, they will help you get outside.
Tip 6: Wash your hands.
The best way to wash your hands is to wash them really well with soap and water and sing happy birthday twice. Don’t do it loud if you’re in a public restroom, they might think you’re a little weird. Just scrub under your nails and really well, like a surgeon scrubs her hands.
I don’t love antibacterial gels because they also kill the good bacteria. We need good bacteria to build a healthy gut which helps build a healthy body.
I hope you enjoyed these tips. Please apply them to your life to protect yourself against viruses,
infections and other things that you don’t want in your body.
