Meet Dr. Mariza Snyder

Dr. Mariza Snyder is a wellness practitioner and the author of six books: the bestselling The DASH Diet Cookbook and The Smart Mom’s Guide to Essential Oils as well as The Low Glycemic Index Slow Cooker, The Antioxidant Counter, The Water Infusion Detox Book and The Matcha Miracle. For the past nine years she has lectured at wellness centers, hospitals, conferences, and corporations on hormone health and essential oils, nutrition, and detoxification. She is also the creator of the Women’s Balance Summit, an online event first held in 2016 with over thirty internationally acclaimed wellness experts, designed to empower women to create the health and life they deserve.

She received her BS degree from Mills College in 2002, majoring in biochemistry, and graduated Cum Laude with a Doctorate of Chiropractic degree from Life Chiropractic College West in 2008.

 

ABOUT DR. MARIZA

  • I am a women’s hormone doctor
  • I have been working with women on hormones for about a decade now
  • It’s my passion and I am learning every single day to become an expert
  • The reason why it became such a passion for me is that I was in hormone chaos
  • I was struggling with hormone issues
  • I was not really listening to all the warning signs and I found myself with big alarm bells going off, and I knew that if I don’t turn this around, I was going to be insignificant trouble
  • So, I began diving in and realized that there was not a lot of information for women to heal their hormones naturally
  • We really did not have a lot of the tools that I felt that we deserve and need
  • So, it really becomes my crusade to help women get their bodies back on track – to have them feeling amazing again
  • The first time that I was feeling these symptoms, I was probably in my mid 20’s
  • It was not typical because women come to be in their 30’s, mid 30’s and even mid 40’s before things get a little crazy for them
  • For me, it was much earlier
  • It has a lot to do with the fact that I was burning myself out since I was in high school
  • I basically ran from 15 years old until I was 25. I began experiencing these pretty crazy warning signs
  • I was filling myself with diet Pepsi and candy
  • At 25, my stress level was adding up, I was getting sick, putting on weight, I had horrible PMS and my migraines were coming back
  • I remember waking up one morning and I felt this invisible hand was just pushing me back down into the bed because I had the most horrible bone-crushing chronic fatigue at that point
  • Finally, I got to a point where that normal became super dangerous
  • And I knew that, to whatever path I was on, that was the path to an earlier mortality
  • The first thing I did was take a look at what was going on because I knew there was a root cause for this
  • And as I was looking at my to-do list, I realized I say yes to everything
  • I was constantly everywhere
  • And so, I started to look at the landscape, the way I was living my life, and it was so much that I did not even enjoy doing, but I said yes to all of it
  • The first thing was, I got rid of a lot that I did not need in my life
  • I asked myself really critical questions like, “what do I need more of and what do I need to let go of?”
  • And I let go of a lot of obligations that I did not even enjoy doing
  • And I put myself on the list because I was never on the priority list
  • The big first step for me is self-awareness, like what is happening to my body
  • But then, I had to shift my beliefs, because if I kept continuing to believe that I did not deserve to be on that priority list, then I was never going to get to a place that I was going to be consistent with it
  • The second thing I did was look at a holistic approach
  • I was not lacking the reading ability, it’s just that I was not putting any of it to use
  • What was really heartbreaking for me is that I was taking care of these women who were showing up with these symptoms and I was literally the mirror of them
  • I became such a big nutrition researcher
  • I wrote 5 books on nutrition
  • I discovered green smoothies and broke up with sugar
  • I really began to feel my body. Definitely got on supplements, especially some adaptogenic herbs to really reset my stress response, because I living in sympathetic system dominance
  • And when you are in that system, your brain is not wired necessarily to do self-healing 
  • If your constant behavior is stress, your brain is going to create patterns with that
  • For me, I was constantly at the high-stress dominant state
  • It was so easy for me to trigger back over and over again
  • I used supplements to fix that, yoga, meditation, running and whatever it was just to break that cycle
  • And then, I discovered essential oils can also break those patterns as well, and those become a big part of my life
  • I just did a lot of research and I discovered that we really do have so many of these tools at our fingertips
  • It is just a matter of deciding, becoming of a little bit aware of what’s going on in our body and making these small shifts towards getting to that beautiful place of abundance and health
  • That’s really what my mission is – to help women just get back to feeling amazing in their bodies
  • I am obsessed with Holy Basil and Ashwagandha. Those are the two adaptogenic herbs that I was using significantly
  • I truly do believe that we are amazing superwomen and it’s how we use those powers that really define if we burn out or are energized
  • We talk a lot about adrenal fatigue, but it is not our poor adrenals that are causing the problem, they are just the receivers of information
  • What’s really the situation is the brain, it’s the limbic brain
  • Inside this brain, we have this loop called HPA axis – The hypothalamus, pituitary, adrenal axis
  • That HPA axis is receiving actions from our environment
  • What I really want to educate women on is how we can interrupt that pattern, so that our HPA axis does not run that way and we don’t end up having that hormone chaos
  • I love oils and I love movement too
  • I have been working out since I was in high school
  • What I love about oils is that it helps supports the lifestyle that we want to enjoy
  • I love using oils for all of my healthy habits
  • I have peppermint rollers, that we carry with us everywhere
  • I fill the rest of it with a carrier oil like coconut oil, grapeseed oil or avocado oil
  • And I roll the rollers over my palms, rub my palms and I just take 2 to 5 deep belly breaths
  • I take the rest of the oil at rub it on the back of my neck
  • Peppermint oil is an instant energizing and it’s really cooling
  • The limbic brain does not only control our stress response, but it also controls our energy, hormones, and emotions
  • If we could get those oils right into the limbic brain, that is where the magic happens

  • I wrote a new one, an upcoming book called The Essential Oils Hormone Solutions
  • This book is about how to get our hormones to get back on track
  • There are two ways of using oil that I highly recommend
  • The first one is breathing them in
  • You are taking all of these gorgeous chemical constituents. Each oil can have a dozen to hundreds of these beautiful chemical constituents
  • When we are breathing them in we can have emotional benefits, focus, clarity, get rid of that brain fog, energizing benefits, hormone benefits, sleep better, reverse cravings, banish cravings and boost libido
  • The other way and easiest way, you can wear oils as bracelets or use your oil in a diffuser
  • You can use oils to work on your areas of concern
  • My go-to oils for libido are jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, sandalwood, and cinnamon
  • I have this really amazing edible massage blend
  • So often, our libido leaves and we don’t know how to get it back
  • For me, it’s about sensuality, intimacy and I think that’s where aroma comes into play
  • My massage blend is 2 tbsp of coconut oil, 5 drops of cinnamon oil, 10 drops of wild orange and 10 drops of sandalwood
  • I really want to create that experience of intimacy and sensuality, I have this spray which is a combination of clary sage, ylang-ylang, and jasmine
  • It not only lowers your stress level but also boosts testosterone and your oxytocin level
  • Rosemary is a great essential oil to get your focus back on track
  • We have a natural decline of hormones especially progesterone and estrogen
  • And depending on how quickly that decline, really determines the level of hot flashes you are going to experience
  • Clary sage can really make that transitions of your hormones a lot easier
  • I have this blend that is designed for women in menopause and perimenopause
  • The superwoman oil contains 12 drops of clary sage, 5 drops of geranium, 5 drops of cedarwood, and 4 drops of ylang-ylang. Top it off with a carrier oil, mix it up and put it around the ovaries
  • This blend is designed to have you step into your power
  • I find that it gives me more clarity, my mood evens out and it definitely stops hot flashes as long as you are consistent

  • We have the ability to fix our hormones without nasty side effects and this is what this book is all about

  • What you need to do is you need to do your research, you need to be mindful
  • I would just go to a company’s website and they are going to tell if you if they are organic or whatever it may be
  • That company better disclose where their oils come from
  • If you go to a company’s website and you see nothing about the quality of where they are getting their oils, that’s a big red flag
  • If you have lemon oil and a jasmine oil with the same price, it’s utterly impossible
