Kombucha and crazy mixed Green Juices are 2 of my favorite ways to get a quick boost of energy and vitamins. It may not look very good, but I assure, the flavor is great and the kick is even better. The best part of these high energy drinks is the health benefits!
Kombucha is simply fermented tea and very easy to make. When you see a jar brewing it looks pretty nasty, thanks to the sugar eating SCOBY (Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast) on top. The flavor is a bit tangy, a bit sweet, and mildly fizzy. Kind of like a healthy soda!
Their are several health benefits of kombucha, according to Dr. Josh Axe, “It is shown that kombucha can efficiently act in health preservation and recovery due to four main properties: detoxification, anti-oxidation, energizing potencies, and promotion of boosting immunity.”
You can purchase kombucha in your grocery store (my fave is cherry chia seed) or brew your own. The only obscure ingredient is the SCOBY, which you can purchase dehydrated online.
To make kombucha, you need to boil 2 quarts of water, 8 black tea bags and 1 cup of sugar for 10 minutes. Fill a one gallon mason jar with cooled tea. Place a SCOBY on top, being careful not to touch with metal or plastic. Write date on paper towel, cover jar with it and secure with rubber band. Place in dark pantry or cupboard and check back in 10-14 days. The longer it sits, the more tart it will become. Be careful or it may turn to vinegar!
This green juice is simply beet greens, apple, ginger, and carrot, all run through my Omega juicer. There are many different juicers on the market, but the Omega is a slow masticating juicer so it will keep the enzymes of the produce intact. Your body will love the quick hit of vitamins and your energy will sky rocket!
So which one will you try first? Kombucha or green juice?
Warning: Kombucha may get you a bit buzzed if drunk on an empty stomach. Just sayin!
