We at High Energy Girl help women over 50 to age stronger instead of weaker and healthier instead of sicker, and the only side effect is a little bit of weight loss. How about that?
So today, we embark on our healthy habit hack series.
Why do we need self-care?
Well, you cannot pour from an empty cup and your cup gets empty by your spouse or significant other by your children by your parents by your job by your house by your pets – everybody’s pulling for your attention. However, you need to nourish yourself from the inside out so that you can serve and take care of others better.
My favorite way of self-care is getting a massage every four weeks.
So why get a massage?
We create a lot of tension. We carry a lot of tension in our traps which affects our neck and it can give us headaches.
Our muscles just get tight and massage will relieve tension.
It also helps with improving your circulation. So often we sit so much that our blood gets stagnant and we need to move it more.
It also helps with lymphatic drainage. We have lymph nodes all out all throughout our body and it’s kind of like the garbage disposal of your body.
So with massage, you can improve lymph flow and clear out the junk easier.
It also helps with stress because we live in chronic stress which is called fight or flight, it’s a sympathetic nervous system but when you do self-care namely massage, it carries you over into the parasympathetic which is rest and digest and this is where we need to spend most of our time because chronic stress is debilitating and it actually is really a problem with disease.
It also helps with joint mobility and muscular flexibility because we get stiff.
As we know, sitting is considered the new smoking and so, we need to open up the hips, open up the shoulders and lengthen our muscles through flexibility because when your muscles are tight it pulls on your bones and it takes them out of joint out of alignment.
It also will help improve your skin tone especially if you hydrate afterward.
What’s the difference between a grape and a raisin? WATER! We want more water and hydration and then the blood flow and the lung flow will help with that as well.
Lastly, it helps with soft tissue injuries. Muscle strains, tendon strains or things like that actually can create a lot of pain in your body.
I hope that you are encouraged to take massage as part of your wellness regime as well as your self-care because like I said you can’t pour from an empty cup.
Bye for now!
