Healthy Habit Hack: 3 Reasons Why YOU SHOULD Eat Protein

Tracee:

Protein is not just for building your guns, it is for so many other reasons.

Debbie:

I love protein because it’s satiating. It’s one of the macronutrients that I love the most. There’s fat, carbohydrate, and protein. Animal protein has 20 amino acids and nine of those 20 amino acids are essential.

Meaning, your body won’t make them. When they’re essential, it means they’re essential for you to consume so that is why i love to prioritize protein on the plate and you’re getting your amino acids which helps all cell membranes it helps your muscles.

We can go on and on the benefits of protein and some animal proteins for example are meat, beef, poultry, eggs, fish, and dairy.

When you eat those proteins, you’re gonna get your nine essential amino acids that your body needs that.

My favorite happens to be grass-fed beef because you are what you eat but you are also what your food eats.

I also have chickens which eat organic food so I love eating chicken eggs and as far as fish go, you want to be careful because big fish like salmon which we love has mercury in it so you really want to limit your consumption of big fish to once or twice a week and then you can fill in the gaps with small fish that are high in omega-3s such as sardines

Debbie:

Your omega omega-3 and your omega-6 ratio has to be balanced

It really is the farm-raised salmon that has a lot of mercury. It sounds like that would be better for you but has more mercury. You can get the wild-caught Alaskan salmon instead.

There is something called the thermal effect of food there’s a thermal effect of all the macronutrients and what that means is, when you ingest either carbohydrate or protein or fat it takes a certain amount of energy to break it down and to actually utilize that macronutrient.

Protein happens to have the highest thermal effect out of all the macronutrients so when you are eating protein, 30 percent of the calories are actually erased because it’s your body is actually using 30 of the calories just to digest and use the amino acids

And one thing I’d like to add to that is, protein is acidic so you really want to make sure that you eat your protein with vegetables so that they’re alkalizing and then that way you can make your meal neutral so you have acidic on one hand you have your alkalizing vegetables on the other, and then together they will neutralize so that you don’t have an acidic environment.

Let’s not forget that we want to add fat to the vegetables. I always look at my vegetables as a vehicle to get my fat in.

So don’t forget your fat because that’s important too. Make those vegetables delicious!

Can you believe we wasted and steamed chicken?

Debbie:

Knowledge is power!
