Healthy Habit Hack #9: How to Make Electrolytes at Home

Today, we’re going to talk about electrolytes. So if you’re just starting now, on the ketogenic diet, or you happen to sweat a lot due to high heat or a lot of activity, you want to replace your electrolytes.

So I recommend drinking a gallon of water a day. And as you eliminate that water, you eliminate electrolytes.

So what are the best ways to do that?

Well, there are many commercially ready-made electrolytes on the market. Many of them also have lots of sugar, I found one that does not it’s absolutely delicious, and it has amino acids as well.

It’s by body health, and it tastes super good. I use their watermelon flavor. This gives me a little bit of aminos and some electrolytes.

Now way number two is you can make your own.

So you want to fill a two-quart pitcher with water, you want to add a teaspoon of quality salt, a teaspoon of like a no salt, lite salt type potassium chloride for potassium. And then magnesium.

You can either use magnesium calm, or I just started using magnesium capsules.

Now the magnesium capsule is magnesium citrate typically and it could create GI distress in some people, some of you need it.

But with the capsule, I’ve noticed no GI distress. So you can either do a tablespoon of the calm or you can do two capsules of this and dump it in the picture along with the juice from one lemon.

This recipe will make you a whole two-quart picture, which is about four servings. Now here is the breakdown.

Let’s compare the nutrition breakdown:

Now the body health amino electrolyte formula has 300 milligrams of sodium per serving, the whole main version has a little under 600 milligrams of sodium per serving.

The potassium in this is 250, the potassium and the homemade is approximately 650. And the magnesium in this is 50 versus 125.

So as you will see your homemade version will give you a lot more electrolytes for a lot less expensive. And this just tastes better. But this also gives you amino acids which are super-duper important.

And your daily goal for these electrolytes is this sodium, about five to 6000, potassium, about one to 2000 Magnesium about four to 500 milligrams.

So using those guidelines, please just plan accordingly.

And you can mix it up, do a little bit of this and a little bit of that or just see what works best for you.

But these are my two favorite options. And I always have a picture of this in the refrigerator.

But the body health tastes so good that I often reach for this one first this watermelon it’s just delicious. And I drop a lemon ice cube in it and drink it on the way to the gym. So I get the alkalizing benefit of the lemon as well as the amazing taste of the watermelon.
