7 Ways to Lower Cortisol Levels (and reduce stress)

Cortisol is the body’s stress hormone and in order to lower cortisol levels, we have to reduce stress. That is why in today’s video, I am going to share 7 ways on how to lower and manage cortisol.
Today I’m going to talk about my seven favorite ways to decrease stress and thereby decreasing cortisol which is a fat-storage hormone.
The number one way is to remove yourself from it, run as fast as you can and get out of the situation if possible and it may be difficult at first but it will be worth it in the long term.
As you are working that out, these are the six things that I recommend doing periodically when you just
to feel that you have some stress building up.
The first is meditation.
This is like a nice meditation stance on a pillow and even if you just focus on your breath for 10 minutes.
My favorite app is called calm where you can do a quick 10-minute meditation and feel amazing afterward and don’t worry if it’s hard to keep your mind focused it is a practice and it will get easier and easier the more you do.
The next one is yoga.
Yoga is a great stress reliever especially if you focus on your breath using inhales and exhales with every movement. You will elongate your muscles, stretching everything out. You will also improve your balance which is really important as we age.
Another tip is to listen to music.
I love the classic rock station on pandora. It is super fun and it brings me back to the 80s when I was a teenager in high school and in college and it just jazzes me up and it makes me smile as I sing in my best voice to all of those classic songs.
Another favorite stress management technique is reading.
I love reading books that will improve the quality of my life and if you just read 10 pages a day you will have read 12 books in a year. Imagine how much better your life will be after absorbing all of that knowledge because remember; if you’re not growing
you’re dying.
Another stress management technique is calling a friend.
Sometimes you just need to talk it out with somebody, and get another perspective or just have a warm fuzzy relationship with somebody that you can feel comforted with.
And my last and favorite is a walk in nature.
Whether it’s the beach or some mountains. Just anywhere that you can have gratitude for the beautiful world that God has presented us with and just find the beauty and be thankful for every cloud, flower, a speck of sand, rolling water  – everything that you see.
So those are my favorite tips for managing stress and it is so worth it because stress kills and also cortisol being your fat-storage hormone by managing your stress you keep your cortisol levels low.
