SHOW NOTES

  • Alisha lives in Florida
  • She’s currently on grad school trying to get a PhD
  • She loves hiking, obsess with Keto and a cat mom of 2

HOW DID YOU FOUND KETO?

  • I found Keto on reddit
  • I actually tried it 5 or 6 years ago and I quit.
I tried it again about 3 years ago and it worked out
  • I am kind of spreading the Keto joys to everyone I know
  • I have been my over weight my whole life
  • Most of my family has been over weight
  • I lost an uncle to obesity related diseases and I kind of realize that I have to get my life in order, like I don’t want to follow their footsteps
  • My highest weight was 299 and I really did not want to see 300
  • I was hoping that Keto is the answer and it turned out that it was
  • I have lost about a 125 pounds and I kept it off for over a year and a half now
  • It changed my life. I can do things that I can never done before
  • I hike all the time. I can hike 20 to 25 miles in the weekend and I can never have done that at 300 pounds
  • So it is nice to be able o live the life I always wanted to live, but I was not just physically able to
  • There was not much talk about Keto at that time so I was kind of cutting out my carbs
  • I tried to live my normal lifestyle. I just skip the past and the bread, but it just did not workout very well for me
  • The second go around, I worked into it and I learned I have to change my mindset more than anything and I had to embrace the perks on Keto instead of focusing on the cons
  • I learn to revaluate my relationship with food and I became more active
  • I have to remind myself that Rome was not build in a day
  • I really had to tell myself that it is okay
  • And that’s kind have been the mindset
  • I have to take care o myself and to listen to my body a little bit more
  • Mindset is the only thing that made it successful
  • If you cheat one meal it does not mean that you’re going to cheat for the rest of the day or the week. Just go back to it. It’s not the end of the world
  • I go to the lab 6 days a week and Keto is actually great with that because it is easier to fast
  • So, I just have a coffee every morning and won’t eat until I come home
  • It’s actually really perfect for my lifestyle
  • Me and my boyfriend hike every Sunday
  • I usually just eat dinner and sometimes, desserts. But usually it is just really a lavish dinner that I cook and dream about all day long
  • If I am hungry, I eat more, but I don’t really feel the need to eat more because most of our food is nutrients dense already in being Keto
  • When I am trying to actively lose weight, I do track
  • Right now, I am just maintaining so I kind of just eat when I am hungry
  • I log my calories and carbs for a one particular day
  • I feel incredible
  • I have never felt better
  • I have no intention in quitting Keto
  • The energy is so insane, the mental clarity is so much better
  • When I was eating carbs, I was so tired
  • I try to walk at least 4 or 5 times, 5 miles a day
  • And then we go hiking on the weekends. We have been trying to do 10 miles on Sundays
  • But I really need to start strength training

WHAT WISDOM WOULD YOU GIVE?

  • Just do it
  • Stop thinking about it. Stop talking about it. Stop wondering. Stop worry about things you can’t have
  • Just gove it a chance
  • By doing Keto, I realized how toxic sugar really was in my life
  • When you get into Keto, you can do all the things you always wanted to do
  • You owe it to your self to try
  • It makes sense in a biochemical level
  • It always taught that you need sugar because it gives you energy
  • But when you look at it biochemically, Keto just makes sense
  • Metabolism wise, it is more efficient.
  • Your body runs better on ketones
  • As a scientist it is definitely different.
Because you’re going against a lot of years science research
  • My boyfriend really doesn’t have a weight to lose
  • But he was often tired and complain about headaches a lot
  • He finally tried it because I begged him to
  • And now he’s in Keto for over a 6 months now
  • He has been feeling so much better. He doesn’t have headaches or migraines anymore
  • All of his muscles are defined
  • It just improved everything to him

FAVORITE RECIPE

  • I am a sucker for Broccoli Cheddar Soup
  • Broccoli Cheddar Soup is the best Keto food
  • I count net carbs
  • If I am tracking, it’s under 20
  • If I am on lazy Keto, it under 30
  • If I am actively trying to lose weight, then no I don’t eat desserts
  • When I am just lazy, occasionally I do
  • I don’t tolerate sweet stuff anymore because I don’t want to go back to my bad habits
  • I am trying to practice self control as much as I can

WHAT’S NEXT FOR YOU?

  • I will never going to stop my Keto journey – I hope
  • I am currently trying to set-up my blog which is almost done
  • I am really looking forward in researching about hiking while on Keto
  • I really want to do a bigger trail
  • I am going to start experimenting on how to eat Keto while doing something like that
  • Hopefully I would get a lot of people on the Keto train with me
  • You can do this
  • Just give yourself a chance
  • I lost the 80-ish of it in about 6 months
  • The rest of it kind of happened sporadically
