The author of the National Bestseller, The Healing Power of Essential Oils, Dr. Eric Zielinski has pioneered natural living and Biblical health education since 2003. Knowing what it’s like to be sick from a young age and having recovered from several chronic diseases in his early 20s, he has been on a mission to share the evidence-based approach to natural living that empowered him to regain control of his health with the world. Trained as an aromatherapist, public health researcher and chiropractor, Dr. Z is an accomplished researcher with several publications and conference proceedings.

ABOUT DR. Z
Z became a fun little name because people always get overwhelmed by looking at my last name
My wife, Sabrina and I had been on a mission to help people not suffer the way that we have
We both were hit over the head with the chronic illness stick ever since we were little babies
When we met each other, we were on our own healing journey
Mine was being way out of balance, extreme nature and hers was like, “let’s kind of think about thing before we do things” to really help balance each other out
It has been a lovely journey to be able to help each other
I was a young man, a late teenager with no purpose, no drive, no focus and I fell through a really dark hole
I remember a neurologist looking at me and asking what I did to myself because I had a spine like a 50-year-old and I was only 19 or 20 years old at the time
If I look back, I think I can connect it to a lot of things
I was not breastfed as a child, and I was on a lot of antibiotics as a kid and I was on the standard American diet
Now, I am 39 years, I am healthier, more vibrant than I have ever been and I love life
My wife and I have just been determined in our hearts to help people
We have been able to this professionally now for about 5 years
The passion and purpose became our career
Here’s a tip for people who are stuck, put all your heart in what you do, and in your free time, do your passion. Start to look for creative ways to monetize your passion
When you do something intentionally, you will manifest that reality in the future
We have found purpose in our pain and that is the key for us
We try to help people also find their purpose from their pain and it is wonderful
I am a chiropractic doctor and a public health researcher
A few years ago, I was a medical writer and one of my clients commissioned me to write a series of public health reports on essential oils and that’s what got me
My healing journey happened through nutrition, prayer, meditation and exercise. Essential oils weren’t in my world
When it was my job to learn about them, I went to Sabrina and asked about it. That was where my journey started
I went to aromatherapy school because I realized, if you are getting your medical advice on Pinterest, or if you are going to your favorite mommy blogger to find helpful solutions, you need to be very careful
Unless someone has been trained in aromatherapy and has a complete understanding in anatomy, physiology, drug interactions and toxicology, you have no idea what you are getting yourself into
And so, I started doing research on these blogs and I started interviewing people, and started getting questions from people around the globe
And the one commonality I saw was that, most information online was biased
Because most people were associated with an essential oil company
You don’t go to get medical advice from someone who gets a kickback from a company. These people did not have a lot of training and they did not understand proper dilutions and dermal dosages
The recommendations are just nonsense
You have to sit and be trained under an aromatherapist and learn, and that’s what I did
I spent a couple of years studying, learning and then wrote a book
A diet is a collection of the foods that you consume
And so, we have a lifestyle approach that incorporates essential oils into it
An essential oil is either pure or not
It will take roughly 35 Lbs. of lavender to get a 15ml bottle of lavender essential oil
So, you get 35 Lbs. of lavender flower, distill it down and you will get 250 drops from that or so
So, you need to consider what we are dealing here with. We are dealing with something that is extracted from nature, we are dealing with something that has gone through a process
Unless it is completely pure, then there could be some other things in it like, synthetic chemicals, pesticides, and what a lot of manufactures are doing is they are mixing the oil with carrier oils
If an oil is pure, the list of oils that are safe to consume are hundreds
The ones that are not safe to consume are the ones that are synthetic, filled with chemicals and it is tough to find out if they are pure or not
The other thing is there are certain oils that are safe with minor dosages like wintergreen
The food and flavor industry use more than of 50% oils manufactured on the planet. That’s what flavors our food
It really boils down to dosage
In that sense, theoretically, essential oils are safe to consume
For us, when it comes to health, we don’t want people to be on oils for the rest of their lives, like a drug
But it could help you through a little hump
We really try to help people deal with the root cause of their disease and most of which has to do with the core inflammatory response that happens because of the foods that we eat and the thoughts that we hold inside of us
We are just running around chronically inflamed and that creates havoc on our immune system and gut
Oils can help with that. Oils can help the root cause of disease
What we do is just that, we have a regular oil routine that enhances our life
We use oil to enhance our lives, in body care and in cleaning products
When you look at the common denominator in all disease, you will see inflammation and that’s the first thing we really try to help in people
For me, it’s the same reason why there are so many people that are overweight, and it’s the same answer, we have been overloaded with toxins in our body
Inflammation is not bad. Inflammation is given to us by God to heal
If you do not have pain, you are going to hurt yourself again and possibly cause permanent damage
Pain is a good thing because it is a warning sign
So, inflammation is a healing mechanism. Inflammation is the response to something bad and harmful
It is really about doing the things that we need to do to bring healing into the body instead of harming it
One thing people don’t get is the significantly deep ramifications, the harmful effects of toxic emotions that happens in your body. It’s proven, it is science
First is forgiveness. Forgive who it is. They may not deserve it but you do
Next is forgive yourself.
And when you fall in love with yourself, you will not allow yourself to do the things that will harm you
At the end of the day, your body is all you really got. So, we try people to get people to love themselves again
And we work with other things like, letting go or how to let go, how to meditate, how to have emotional detox break – all these things
That is where the true healing starts and then everything becomes easier
Something happened around the Atkins era and a little bit before. We became fixated with quantity and we let go of quality
What we are trying to do is kind of shine the light on the plant-based compounds that we know as bioactive compounds
Combine them together with essential oils, and they create what is known as bioactive groups
If you don’t have a diet rich in plant-based compounds you will never be truly healthy and you will always be chronically unwell
Meat is very troublesome for some people now. Primarily because of the toxins that are in the meat
It is about helping people find out what works for them and how to live a life that is really pleasing
Living a healthy life can and should be very satisfying
It is about finding what you really want and coming up with a version of it that will make you feel good and help you not break your lifestyle commitment
First of all, it’s finding a solution that doesn’t make you feel like you need to abstain and this is a really cool pro-hack for those people who want to be healthy, but then they struggle around the holidays

But when it comes to essential oils, if you’re really craving for something there are things you can do. We have something that we call, our quit stick recipe, which is originally made for smokers
We started developing this recipe
It is a toothpick that you soak in essential oil and you suck on the toothpicks
And so, I thought that if it works for smokers, it could work for other addictions
I started doing some research and it made sense – addiction is addiction
We started using this for food addiction and the response was the same
You start with a shot glass or a 1-ounce glass, you want to fill that with 20 drops of black pepper, 10 drops grapefruit, 5 drops of peppermint, 5 drops of orange and 5 drops of bark
And then, you fill up the glass halfway or so with an edible carrier oil. We recommend olive oil or grapeseed oil. And you put the toothpicks in there and leave them overnight, then take the toothpicks out, let them dry and put it into your mouth
You can use the same blend in your diffuser or you can make a roll-on
These compounds penetrate your bloodstreams
Citrus oils have been shown to burn fat
There are so many tricks that you could do and that’s why we call it the Essential Oils Diet
Using essential oils can really help people over a hump especially people that are plateaued
