ABOUT GEORGIA
I am originally from Melbourne, but I live in London for 22 years
In those 22 years, I became a clinical hypnotherapist and I went to teach hypnosis in Universities for quite a few years
Prior to that, I trained with this amazing psychologist which really helped my clinic
When I opened up my clinic in London, people will come up to me with stress, insomnia, anxiety and somebody told me to focus on her drinking a little bit
That client told me that she does not want to quit and I told her that I don’t want to quit either
I created a strategy for clients and word of mouth just spread
I wrote a book so people can buy around the world
So, I self-published my book and within the first month, it was in the Psychology magazine, Sunday Times, newspaper
People started to realize that there was another way and that’s really my premises
Some people choose to quit, that’s very fine but I am more like, “if you work on the thinking before the drinking, they you can change that emotional conditioning”
We’ve now moved to Australia, back to my home city
My passion is just to help people
I am not saying not to drink, but let’s think about drinking a little bit less
Statistically and culturally (some), are all big drinkers
But the problem is, if you’re drinking too much, you tend to overeat the next day
I am here as a message to say that the psychology that I was trained in is that, the world is made up with many parts and sub-personalities and there’s one personality trick called the inner critic
The inner critic is the part that says: you did not achieve this today, you drink too much last night, you’re putting on weight, what’s your problem – all the negative talk
The inner critic is not get rid of but we can learn to manage it
We are not really drinking for the alcohol, we are drinking because of the dopamine
My program is about training your brain to have that dopamine fix sober
We don’t need to drink to be “that person” the inner critic tricked us to be “that person”
You can be that funny, wonderful, charismatic person before you drink
The inner critic is good in playing games and when we have too much thinking time, we can often think negative thoughts
I always say that there is a fine line between thinking too much and not having enough time to think
A really good tool is to listen some classical or meditative music just to calm everything down before you had that first drink if you can
Another thing is important is breath
When we are in a shallow breathe, we are anxious but when we deep breathe, calibrate
The great thing about my work is that it trains people to be in the space before they had their first drink
When we had our first drink if we are thirsty, our body will identify that it is liquid and the body will want more
And actually, alcohol dehydrates us but the brain see liquid as hydration
If you are drinking alcohol, you need to be eating as well
There is this personality trait called the pleasers and when in comes to drinking, pleasers don’t tend to be more regular heavy drinkers and they are not very assertive and attracts bullies
If you’re drinking to communicate, your brain will assume that whenever you need to have those challenging conversation, you need to have alcohol in your system
But I am training you to be assertive in your sober life so that you are not drinking to communicate to other people
One of the things about the pleaser is that they love food, wine, being with family and nurturing and they do it a lot too often because they can’t say no
A pleaser is very popular but they are not looking for their their own health
There is another drinking personality trait called the perfectionist which is the all or nothing drinker
They are really good in obtaining alcohol to watching what they eat and once they start to drink, the inner critic goes away and they just drink really quickly
They also ends up deciding to quit because it’s easier to quit because they can’t seem to get that middle ground of drinking
I don’t want people to think that there is something wrong with them because there’s nothing wrong with them, they just get themselves into a drinking habit
When you are feeling a sense of vulnerability, the brain will scan on what did you do on that emotion, how did you extinguish it
We can train the brain through hypnosis to stop negative thinking through the day
With hypnosis, you can train the mind to tune out from that negative thinking so that when you get to your wine, you’re enjoying it
You have to be congruent with your goals to what you decided to sit
You got to change the emotional part of the brain
I am about training the mind to bring that intuitive compact
Because if you listen to inner critic for too long, alcohol becomes the quick fix
Neuroscientists has confirmed that hypnosis is the quick way to cut to the chase about how to change the unhealthy habits
It’s not a lazy way, it’s just effective
The brain can change very quickly with hypnosis but it takes practice and it’s a great tool if you want to cut back a little bit
Between the drinking and eating, there is a difference because we need to eat to survive
Food can give you dopamine, but you have a chemical reaction with alcohol that is stronger than food
I have been doing hypnosis for 24 years
It’s really about understanding the personality that hinders us from feeling whole
In your sober life, if you feel that you’re not sexy then when you drink, we become more sexy
We need to learn to be communicative positively before we drink because when the critic go away, we become more assertive
Hypnosis is really a good way to train the brain to experience new ways of thinking and having them as reference
Hypnosis is an emotional condition and we can train your mind to drinking a different way, drink less and incorporate alcohol-free days
If you’re listening to your inner critic, guaranteed you’ll need to drink to get away from you
