ABOUT HARLAN

  • My background was in Education. I was a principal of different level schools – from elementary all the way to high school
  • I love helping the kids, but I did not like the politics involved in schools
  • I decided to leave education, and the next thing that I did is I opened up a weight loss clinic
  • The weight loss clinic was very successful, but it was taken over by someone who franchises them
  • He came in with the franchise philosophy and he said that we have to treat every person the same, but I told him that, that’s absurd because everyone’s unique
  • I have this difference in philosophy in treating people uniquely and I realized that this isn’t for me
  • I shut down my offices and said goodbye to my clients
  • Somehow, along the way, I became a yoga fanatic
  • Unfortunately, I hurt my self badly in yoga and the weight started piling on
  • I did not realize at that time that I have developed metabolic syndrome
  • I remember going into the doctor’s office, he diagnosed me and he said that I have a syndrome X, I asked what is it and he said I can google it but he told me the summary of it and said it’s impossible for me to lose weight
  • So, it became my challenge. When someone tells me that there’s something I can’t do, that is the best for me because I am not going to take that
  • I bounce from diet to diet and none of them worked
  • I remember low-carb and I was devoted to it
  • Then, I heard about keto. I found much to my sadness and surprise, my doctors did not know anything about keto
  • I found a cardiologist who was sympathetic and the last straw with him was when he asked me to speak to his nutritionist
  • Her idea of life is eating shakes and no-fat peanut butter powder and she mixed some in the office and told me that I can have it, and that’s when I realized that I need to do keto
  • I started keto and started a Facebook group to help people and myself with keto
  • That was about 4 or 5 years ago and now I have 4 or 5 different Facebook group with a million followers
  • I came up with a keto plan that combines keto and intermittent fasting that not only works for me but also worked for about 70 thousand people
  • I have more energy and I am finally getting my body back into the shape when I was doing yoga but without doing yoga
  • When I did low-carb, they told me to cut out sugar, and so I did
  • I remember that I was traveling and there was a market and somebody was selling fresh granola
  • I told the seller that I can’t have sugar and he said that so is he because he is diabetic
  • He told me that the granola has no sugar at all, so I took the granola and it was delicious
  • And I went back and brought more, then I found out that sugar-free technically meant that it did not have sugar but it had hidden sugar
  • Then, I realize that I have to become an expert in ingredients
  • I went to see an endocrinologist and told me to write down what I ate for the past week and he looked at it he said that what I am doing is impossible and I should not be in this weight
  • He said that he wants me to cut out diet soda and I started paying attention to every single ingredient that went into my mouth and things made a different
  • The biggest change that came over me is that food had no longer any control over me
  • Any diet can work for a period of time then your body can get used to what you’re doing and you’ll hit a really long plateau
  • One of the people that I love in the weight loss/keto/intermittent fasting world is Dr. Fung
  • He said that if you have metabolic syndrome, it’s going to take a long time to extremely to lose weight even with intermittent fasting
  • I think the body can get used to anything including intermittent fasting
  • Eventually, I made an entire program out of it and every week, it’s changing the fasts from extended to OMAD, to changing the times of your meals, and it made a difference

A DAY IN YOUR DIET

  • The first thing that I do in the morning is have a cup of coffee with some MCT oil powder in it and a tiny bit of heavy whipped cream
  • I perform really well in MCT oil and I think more clearly
  • Sometimes, I’ll have some eggs in the morning and sometimes with a salad
  • I usually do not do much of a lunch
  • Dinner is a meat and some veggies
  • My favorite is extended fast where I just have chicken broths
  • The chicken broths are loaded with electrolytes and over time, I forget about food
  • I typically do a 66-hour fast and I do that once every other week and I hardly even noticed that I am fasting
  • A lot of people have difficulties with cravings
  • And there is a simple killer that no matter what the craving is, this would work
  • It is ice water with lemon juice in it
  • It should be a real lemon juice and you squirt it in the roof of your mouth and your craving will be gone

ADVICE

  • It really works
  • Be patient with yourself
  • Weight loss is not a sprint, it’s a matter of thought
  • Keto is going to work
  • One of the things that I want to caution people is that you have to become familiar with ingredients
  • Just because has decided to make a buck, and put keto on the label, does not truly make it keto
  • The first book I wrote was a recipe book
  • When you do keto, the food should taste as good as non-keto food
  • I started ketofying recipes
  • Then, I came out with a program called speed keto and we have over 70 thousand people in there with incredible success and I added IF in there but a lot of people could not do intermittent fasting because some are type 1 diabetic, or are nursing
  • So, I wrote a book called, Eating Speed Keto and followed subsequently by Completely Keto Goes Mexican, Completely Keto Soups, Completely Keto Goes Kosher
  • You can find the book at speedketo.shop
  • We have so many Facebook groups to help people
  • We try and teach people that the answer is not food
