As a healthy, energetic woman, you can imagine my surprise to find out I am gluten intolerant! And not just a little, but A LOT!
For years, friend and fellow health coach, Susan Hamilton has encouraged me to get tested for gluten sensitivity. Now mind you, I have absolutely no symptoms. She said, many people don’t have known symptoms, until something bad happens and their body shuts down. So, I thought about cancer and heart disease. What symptoms do you have of cancer before a tumor is diagnosed? These are silent killers, and so is gluten. However I still ignored Susan’s recommendation.
Fast forward 2 years and saw the book Wheat Belly at Costco. After about 1/4 of the way into the book, I was blown away at the health problems created by eating wheat…and it all started making sense. People don’t know what they don’t know and I am on a mission to educate!
SIDE NOTE: A few weeks ago, I took a nutrition class and what were they serving as a snack? BAGELS…full of wheat of course! Did I have one? No! of course not! And that was before my test! I just know what wheat does to a person’s blood sugar…spikes it higher than a spoonful of table sugar. You would be better off eating a snickers bar than a bagel.
Since I don’t want to ask any of my clients to do something that I won’t do, I decided to get the gluten test, all the while thinking I was wasting the 100 bucks. And let me tell you, it felt pretty weird having to poop into a bucket and freeze it. LOL But we Health Coaches talk about all sorts of body things, I better get over it quick, right? When I mailed the pre labeled package, i just quietly dropped it off at the Fed Ex Store….thank God he didn’t talk to me that day!
Three weeks later, I get the results and to my surprise, they were positive. Anything 10 and above indicated gluten intolerance. and my score was a whopping 178! Wow! Their recommendation was a permanent, gluten free diet! Did you realize that even one little cheat messes up your healing process and you have to start all over. No more cake for me!
So, get tested my friends….at http://enterolab.com and let me know your results!
