Breathing Benefits and Exercises

Breathing is one of the most important things we can do. While we can go weeks without food and days without water, we can only go a few minutes without air.

Breathing has so many benefits to our bodies other than just the obvious. Breathing can boost your energy, calm your stressed out mind, and cleanse your lymphatic system.

Are you a shallow breather or a deep breather? A chest breather or a belly breather? In Bikram yoga, we breathe with our belly at both the beginning of class to prepare for the practice and warm up our insides and at the end
to remove the remaining toxins from our bodies.

When Mountain Biking, naturally I find myself breathing through my mouth while climbing hills, short, rapid breaths. However this way of breathing tires you out faster. When I realize I am breathing this way, I try and take longer, slower breaths through my nose. This will calm me down and conserve my energy to climb those hills easier.

Try out the breathing exercises on the video. The first one I do 2 sets of 10. And the second one is the lymphatic cleansing breath recommended twice a day. There are many others out there, so experiment and find what you enjoy most. The please share with me too!!! Thanks!
